Dr Alkesh Zala

Dr Zala has vast clinical experience in managing complex gastrointestinal disorders. He currently works as a Senior Staff Specialist at the John Hunter Hospital and is affiliated with University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI).
His interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastrointestinal motility disorders, bowel cancer screening and general hepatology.
He offers diagnostic and interventional endoscopy/colonoscopy for investigation and management of various gastrointestinal pathologies. He also performs a video capsule study for investigation of small bowel pathology.
He believes in providing high quality specialist services and holistic care to patients with complex medical problems.

Dr Daniel Oliver

Dr Dan Oliver is a Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle, with active roles in clinical research, medical education and mentoring. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancer screening, liver disease, and disorders of gut-brain interaction. With extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, Dr Oliver is dedicated to providing compassionate care, ensuring patients feel understood, supported and valued throughout their healthcare journey.

A/Prof Rani Bhatia

A/Prof Bhatia is a Senior Staff Specialist in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Newcastle and Conjoint Associate Professor in Child Health at The University of Newcastle. She is also a member of the Academy of Clinical Educators at The University of Newcastle.
A/Prof Bhatia has more than 20 years of experience in Paediatric Medicine and Child Health.
A/Prof Bhatia is an expert in managing allergic conditions such as food, insect and medication allergy, eczema, hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and asthma in children. She also has expertise in diagnosing and managing immune deficiencies, inflammatory conditions and autoimmune disorders. She collaborates and jointly manages eosinophilic oesophagitis and other eosinophilic gut diseases with paediatric gastroenterologists.
Dr Bhatia also has a special interest in feeding issues in infancy and early childhood. She works with dermatologists to help manage patients with severe eczema who may need immunosuppression. She has an interest in preventive health and is skilled in managing and advising patients who have had post-immunization adverse events.
Dr Bhatia has expertise in conducting skin prick allergy testing, intradermal testing and supervising food challenges. She also offers both oral and injectable immunotherapy.
